ITEC - Immersive Sound & Vision Lab

Client: D&B Solutions

Date Completed: 2024

Size: 300m2 (3,229ft2)

An immersive sound and vision experience at the heart of London’s Science Museum.

This cutting-edge installation offers visitors a fully enveloping audiovisual journey—housed within a purpose-built acoustic sanctuary inside one of the UK’s most iconic cultural institutions. The primary challenge? Ensuring complete sound isolation between the facility and the surrounding museum environment—both protecting the experience from external noise and preventing internal audio from spilling out into the galleries.

To achieve this, we engineered a dual-shell construction: an inner and outer isolation shell, separated by a carefully calculated cavity. Built with a timber frame structure, this layered design forms a high-performance acoustic envelope that allows the experience to unfold in perfect sonic clarity.

Inside, the rooms are acoustically tuned with a blend of low and high-frequency absorbers, integrated seamlessly into the walls and ceilings. Finished with stretched fabric and bespoke joinery, the space strikes a balance between technical excellence and refined visual design—creating a truly immersive environment where sound and vision come alive.
